Long‐term changes in flowering synchrony reflect climatic changes across an elevational gradient

چکیده
Synchrony defines an organism's overlap with potential resources and mates, essential for survival reproduction. Flowering synchrony influences gene flow within species patterns of interaction among plants other trophic levels, including pollinators. Climate‐change driven shifts in plant phenology may disrupt plant–plant plant–pollinator interactions, resulting reshuffling communities altered ecosystem processes. We present a unique long‐term metacommunity‐wide study relating changes flowering along elevational gradient to local climatic conditions. apply circular statistical method that estimates between entire distributions, overcoming limitations biases single indicators such as first last dates. analyzed more than 300 000 217 five across 1267 m over four decades (1984–2019) the southwestern USA. show co‐flowering significantly decreased all communities, maximum 28.1% lost at lowest elevations. Reduced precipitation had locally‐dependent effects and, combination warmer temperatures, accelerated decrease synchrony, especially occurring multiple increased most community pairs, increase 30.5%, rates recent years. Changes in Brazilian Drosophilidae (Diptera) assemblages across an urbanisation gradient.
The present study aims to characterise the assemblages of Drosophilidae sampled from four sites subject to different levels of urbanisation, in the city of Florianópolis, South Brazil. Five samples were collected between August 2000 and August 2001 and five between August 2002 and August 2003 in each site. A gradual change in the dominant species was observed in the urbanisation gradient, with ...
متن کاملA phylogenetic comparative study of flowering phenology along an elevational gradient in the Canadian subarctic.
Climate change is affecting high-altitude and high-latitude communities in significant ways. In the short growing season of subarctic habitats, it is essential that the timing and duration of phenological phases match favorable environmental conditions. We explored the time of the first appearance of flowers (first flowering day, FFD) and flowering duration across subarctic species composing di...
متن کاملReproductive limits of a late-flowering high-mountain Mediterranean plant along an elevational climate gradient.
Mountain plants are particularly sensitive to climate warming because snowmelt timing exerts a direct control on their reproduction. Current warming is leading to earlier snowmelt dates and longer snow-free periods. Our hypothesis is that high-mountain Mediterranean plants are not able to take advantage of a lengthened snow-free period because this leads to longer drought that truncates the gro...
متن کاملChanges Reflect Information Signaling ?
We develop new tests of the dividend signaling hypothesis by focusing on the role of liquidity. We allow for two different types of signaling models: one where current dividends signal firm value and the objective is to prevent current dilution, and the other where commitments to future dividends constitute the signal. We find that the results differ by the sign of the dividend surprise. Signal...
متن کاملGrasshopper Community Response to Climatic Change: Variation Along an Elevational Gradient
BACKGROUND The impacts of climate change on phenological responses of species and communities are well-documented; however, many such studies are correlational and so less effective at assessing the causal links between changes in climate and changes in phenology. Using grasshopper communities found along an elevational gradient, we present an ideal system along the Front Range of Colorado USA ...
